Musketeers of Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang.

On a very clear day one can see Annapurna and Mansiri sub-Himalayan Range from Sauraha, Chitwan. Mt. Manaslu (8163m), the “Mountain of Spirit”, located on western Central part of Nepal is a highest peak of Gorkha district. Manaslu is derived from the Sanskrit word “manasa” meaning "intellect" or "soul”. The mountain was first climbed by Artur Henryk Hajzer, a Polish Mountaineer in 1986.

The Lumbini museum exhibits about the life of Gautama Buddha spread throughout several rooms, including artifacts, statues, photos, and other significant Buddha iconography. Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Kenzo Tange when planning the entire site of Lumbini placed the museum at the entrance because he wanted the pilgrim’s personal journey in Lumbini to be an expression of the Buddha’s own journey for Lumbini is Nepal’s most iconic archaeological, cultural, and spiritual site.

Rhododendrons Forest called Fulbari in Rima is a less traversed forest of Nepal but like any other forest, it is home to 30 varieties of the Rhododendron. The spellbinding walking trail had shrubs that dramatically crawled along the hills and other times just stood tall, as tall as 30m. The bare naked hanging branches looked like networking webs. But the flowering trees looked like the living art of bonsai, with their leaves spirally arranged and the flowers blooming in clusters. Rhododendron is Gurans in the Nepali language, and dark red colored Rhododendron (Rhododendron arboreum), the “Lali Gurans” is the National flower of Nepal.

In Tibetan, the vertical prayer flags (as seen on photos) are called ‘Dar Cho’ where Dar means to increase life, fortune and health and Cho represents sentient beings. The 5 colours of the prayer flags signify the five elements of the earth; blue is heaven sky, white is air, red is fire, green is water and the yellow is earth. It is believed that when wind touches and flutters prayer flags it takes the prayers inscription of the flags to near and far places blessing all the sentient beings. Jomsom, Mustang.

After ritual bathing and praying to Muktinath and Mukteshwar Mahadev, Hindu pilgrims take part in “Rudri Puja” organized at the Shree Muktinath Yagya Shala vicinity, that lies next to Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple at the Muktinath vicinity. Rudri Puja is an ancient practice followed in Hinduism since time immemorial. ‘Rudra’ means ‘Shiva – the Benevolent’, ‘ the Destroyer of Evil’. At it, Shiva is worshiped in his Rudra form and it is hailed by all Vedic scriptures as one of the greatest Pujas to remove all evils, to attain all desires and for all-round prosperity.

Tiji, an abr for “Tinji Rimdo” meaning “The Prayer for World Peace”, is a 3 day annual festival during Dawa Sumba (Apr/May) month of Tibetan Calendar. The monks of Choede Monastery wearing colorful animal masks and robes perform masked dances. The masked dances on the second day called “Nag Cham”, The dances are executed in an aggressive style; weapons and animal forms are the major attractions of the dance sequence on this day, representing the various means used to drive the evil away.
