Paropakar Maternity & Women’s Hospital
Prasuti Griha is the first Maternity Home situated in Thapathali, Kathmandu. Its called Paropakar Maternity & Women’s Hospital.
King Mahendra with Daya Bir Singh Kansakar established this hospital on 26 September 1959 in the loving memory of his first Crown Princess Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah after she passed on. She was only 24 when she suffered birth complications while giving birth to her sixth child King Dhirendra. It was called “Paropakar Shree Panch Indra Rajya Laxmi Maternity Hospital”, but after the fall of Monarchy in Nepal in 2008, it’s was renamed “Paropakar Maternity & Women’s Hospital”
The new maternity building is established with a motto to provide effective and efficient medical facilities to more women, mothers, and babies to facilities. The building can also be used for multiple medical services and educational purposes too. The Government of Japan supported the reconstruction of the Hospital along with the provision of essential medical equipment. The reconstruction work falls under Japan’s Grant Assistance ‘Program for Rehabilitation and Recovery from Nepal Earthquake’ and stands as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Nepal.
It was inaugurated by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli on July 12, 2019, and was handed over to the Ministry of Health and Population by the Government of Japan.
