Janaki Mandir was constructed in the late 19th century by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh, India, as a tribute to the legendary goddess Sita. According to the epic Ramayana, Janakpur was Sita’s birthplace, and it was here that she was found by King Janak while plowing the fields. The temple, therefore, holds immense significance in the hearts of Hindus as the sacred site where Sita was born and later married to Lord Ram.

Bibaha Panchami is a Hindu commemoration day that marks the marriage of prince/Lord Rama and princess/Goddess Sita. Ram was the prince of Ayodhya, India, whereas Sita was the princess of Janakpur, Nepal. Owing to the burden of finding the right match for his daughter, King Janak, Sita’s father was very worried about finding a suitable husband for his only heir. In his intuition of finding the best husband for his daughter, he organized a huge ceremony where all the princes from near and far states would participate.
